The season is over for Iowa Wesleyan College and its Head Men’s Basketball Coach Alan Magnani, but his duties for the season most certainly are not.

Magnani, who just completed his 12th season as the Tigers’ coach, will remain plenty busy during the postseason with a number of obligations. He is active in the leadership of several NAIA organizations and committees, including being the Chairman of the Games Committee for the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament, as well as president of the NABC-NAIA

The NAIA Division II tournament is going on right now, and Magnani is one of four serving on the Games Committee as a “Redcoat,” as the committee members are called. This is his second year serving as chairman of the committee.

As Games Committee chair Magnani will have a full plate of duties overseeing the event.

He will be working with teams and coaches during the tournament, will oversee officials, and also is chair of the Nominating Committee for All-America selection.

“It’s a time-consuming task,” Magnani says. “It’s worthwhile to be able to give something back to a sport that has given so much to me. And it’s an honor that the NAIA is confident enough in my abilities to ask me to perform these responsibilities.”

As President of the NAIA’s own branch of the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches), Magnani is in the fourth year of a five-year commitment that this year includes his being president of the organization. He will conduct the NAIA-NABC meeting to be held at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.

“It’s nice that peers nominated me as an officer,” Magnani said. “Serving as president this year has been interesting to learn more in-depth about how the leadership in organizations like this work.”

Magnani’s Tigers recently concluded a 13-16 season that included a 9-7 record and a third place finish in the regular season in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. His team included just one senior and will return All-American forward Brett Humpal for one more season in 2008-09.
