March 4, 2008 - The MCC has issued a public reprimand to Iowa Wesleyan women’s basketball coach Steve Williamson for his actions directed toward the Officials at the conclusion of last night’s MCC Women’s Basketball Championship game.

“The MCC believes in and supports the NAIA Champions of Character initiative, and emotional outbursts such as Coach Williamson’s are not acceptable,” said MCC Commissioner Rick Sanders.  “He is a good coach and a good person, and I believe that this is not an issue we will have with him in the future”.

Regarding the situation, Steve Williamson said, “I want to apologize for my actions Monday night after our game against St Ambrose.  I had no business confronting the official after the game, and I let my emotions get the better of me.  I know my actions made my team, my family, Iowa Wesleyan College, and myself look very bad and were uncalled for. I apologize for my actions and promise that this will not happen again.”
