Mount Mercy College senior Katie Larsen became the second Mustang to qualify for the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships with her performance in the 3,000 meter run at Saturday’s Nike Impact Sports Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Larsen, the Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the third week in a row, posted the top time in the MCC in the 3,000 meters this season. She shattered her own school record by more than 20 seconds, crossing the finish line in 10:42.91.

Larsen will join sophomore teammate Alyssa Maher at next month’s national meet. Maher qualified for nationals in the 55 meter hurdles at the first indoor meet of the season, Jan. 19 at the Wisconsin-Platteville Open. She later set a school record in the event and owns the top time in the league with a time of :08.76 at the Hilltop Open hosted by Cornell College on Feb. 2.
