Des Moines, Ia. – The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced it men’s soccer All-Conference honors. Twenty-nine athletes were recognized as part of the All-Conference Team as voted by the coaches; fourteen to the First Team and fifteen to the Honorable Mention Team.

St. Ambrose junior forward Greg Lehman (Davenport, Ia.) was voted as the MCC Player of Year. In conference play, Lehman led the MCC in nearly every offensive category in 2007: shots (44), shots per game (5.50), goals (12), goals per game (1.50), game-winning goals (4), and was third in assists (3). Lehman was the MCC Player of the Week twice and the Region VII Player of the Week once. He currently leads the NAIA in goals scored (24).

“Greg is an unselfish ball player. He is as likely to distribute the ball as to shoot it and defend against set pieces as he is striking at goal. He is passionate about every moment of every game, whether the team is winning or losing, and regardless of the margin of victory or defeat. Greg leads the conference in overall goals scored (24) and overall points (56). He has moved to the top of the St. Ambrose career scoring list with 65 goals in three seasons. When you talk to Greg, he does not mention the goals, but rather praise his teammates, acknowledging how hard the new and returning players have worked to mesh on the field,” said St. Ambrose head coach Father Robert Grant.

St. Ambrose junior midfielder Kendrick Tyson (Davenport, Ia.) was deemed the MCC New Comer of the Year. Tyson, a transfer from Scott Community College, was a leader in several MCC statistical categories this season: points (3rd-15), points per game (3rd-1.88), goals (3rd-6), and assists (4th-3).

Ashford head coach Mick Regan was selected by his peers as the MCC Coach of the Year. In his fourth season at the helm of the Saints, he led the Saint’s to a 9-7-2 overall record, the program’s best season since 1997. The Saints advanced to the semifinal round of the MCC Tournament and lost a 1-1 double-overtime decision to No. 2 seed Grand View in a shootout.

“Coach Regan has done an outstanding job with the men’s soccer program. He has taken them to new competitive heights this year, having attained the best team record since 1997. To be selected Coach of the Year is quite an honor and I am pleased for Mick that he has been recognized by the esteemed coaches of the MCC, “said Ashford athletic director Meg Schebler of Regan’s honor.
